# A sports bar site that answers what's on tonight

A bar gets asked three things: when it opens, whether the game is on and what the special is. This concept site answers all three in one band that starts on today.

## The short version

**The problem:**

A visitor wants tonight's hours, special and game in one look, and a site that spreads them over three pages makes them hunt.

**What the site does:**

The demo's home page has a day picker that shows one day's hours, specials and games, and it opens on today in Florida time.

## Three questions and a phone

Picture the visitor. They are on a phone, probably already on their way or deciding where to watch a game, and they want three facts: is the place open, is the game on, is there a deal. A bar can answer all three in one sentence on the phone. On a website they can end up on three different pages.

So I started from those questions instead of from a menu. The home page opens with the name, one line about the bar and two buttons, View menu and Order takeout. A little further down, before the specials and the schedule, sits a band headed with the day's name, such as "Thursday at Tide Line," with that day's hours, deals and games in one place.

## A band that opens on today

The band has seven day choices under the label See another day, and it opens on whatever day it is in Florida time, with that day's button reading, for example, "Thu (today)". Pick Friday and it shows the bar open from 11 am to 1 am, the happy hour from 4 to 6 pm and a UFC fight night at 7:00 PM ET. Pick Sunday and it shows closing at 10 pm and two NFL games. Pick Wednesday and wing night appears above the happy hour. A day with no special or game says so in plain words rather than leaving a gap.

The choices are real radio buttons in a labeled group, so a keyboard moves through them with the arrow keys, and the results sit in a polite live region, so a screen reader announces the new day when the choice changes. The band stays hidden until its script runs. For anyone whose script doesn't run, the same hours, specials and games are already on the page in their own sections, so nothing goes missing.

## One copy of the schedule

The band holds no hours or deals of its own. Each hours line, special and game row on the page carries the days it applies to, and the script reads those rows and builds the band from them. Change a row once in the specials section or the games list and the band follows. There is no second copy that could drift out of date.

The page says plainly that its schedule is a sample: "Sample schedule for this concept. A live site updates it weekly." Someone has to do that update, and I'd rather the page admit it than imply the games listed are this week's.

## A menu you can scan with a drink in hand

The Menu page opens with ten jump links, Starters through Drinks, so a visitor can go straight to wings or the kids' section. Items carry small tags where a tag helps: Fan Favorite, Spicy, Vegetarian and GF. The wing sauces are listed as a row of six with the two hot ones marked. Add-ons say what they cost where they apply, such as chicken or blackened shrimp for $4 more on the nachos, so nobody does the math at the register.

The home page shows only six plates from that menu, then links to the rest. The Menu page also tells diners to mention any food allergies to their server. The GF tags are demonstration content, which I come back to below.

## A made-up bar, labeled and credited

Every page opens with a bar saying Tide Line Tavern is not a real business, and the footer repeats it and says the location, contact, menu and promotional details are examples. The address reads Apollo Beach, FL with a note that there is no street address. The phone number is an example number, and the email address ends in.example. The photos are licensed stock from Pexels, and the footer names the photographers. The page's structured data calls it demo markup, and the demo is set to noindex, so search engines are asked not to list a bar that doesn't exist.

The About page gives the name a reason: a tide line is the mark the water leaves on the sand, and the page uses it to say the coast and the neighborhood keep meeting up.

## What a real bar would change

A real bar would change five things. The address and hours would be the real ones. The weekly games list would be kept current by someone at the bar, since the band is only as right as its rows. The kitchen would confirm every GF and vegetarian tag and the allergy wording, because I design the site and I'm not the kitchen. The stock gallery would give way to the owner's own photos. And the takeout button would point at the bar's real phone line or ordering system instead of an example number.

## The measured scores

PageSpeed Insights, mobile, October 22, 2026. I ran the live demo through Google's PageSpeed Insights three times on mobile and saved all three reports. The medians are 96 for Performance, 100 for Accessibility, 100 for Best Practices and 69 for SEO. The Performance runs were 98, 96 and 95, so all three were 90 or more. SEO reads 69 because the one check that fails is "Page is blocked from indexing": every concept site carries a noindex tag on purpose, so search engines don't list a business that isn't real.

**Tide Line Tavern is a concept site. The business isn't real.** The menu, prices, hours, phone number and photos on it are examples.
